“Let food be thy medicine and may medicine be thy food”. This powerful and profound phrase, uttered by Hippocrates more than 2,400 years ago, seems to have been forgotten in our current days.

We are seeing the incidence of cancer, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular and neurological diseases (such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s) increase every year all around the world, with no significant difference between different age groups and wealth classes. Not to mention other cases of problems that, despite having lower mortality rates, seriously affect people’s quality of life, such as hormonal imbalance, infertility, allergies and intolerances, obesity, diabetes, gastrointestinal problems, among many others.

Data and scientific studies show that 9 out of 10 cancer cases are caused by external factors or lifestyle choices, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, excess sugar, pesticides, air pollution, and excessive emotional stress

Aging has become a synonymous to disease and fragile health in our society, and it is sad to see that most of this situation is actually self-inflicted. We stop questioning the information we get, and eventually accept whatever the world throws at us for the sake of convenience and for “not having enough time”. However, people don’t realize that not much Is achieved without health, so prioritizing it is a must for us.

What we need to realize is that food plays a fundamental role in our health, a fact proven by thousands of studies worldwide. It is also a known fact that only 5% of disease cases and health problems are related to genetics, which by itself is profound evidence that the development of these conditions is linked to the food choices and lifestyle we choose and adopt, rather than some predisposition that is outside of our control.

Because of that, what we eat, drink, breathe and what we put on our skin has a very big impact on our health, so choosing pure and natural foods is highly recommended to have a body that works well and healthy.

In addition, choosing a lifestyle that is right for your body and for our planet is the most effective way of reversing many of the problems we are facing in humanity as “modern society.”

For me, every day it becomes clearer that the solution is a conscious, primarily vegan (also known as plant-based) diet, where fruits, vegetables, nuts, good sources of fats, good grains (such as beans, peas, chickpeas, lentils), seeds, mushrooms, herbs and spices are the basis of everything we really need to eat – basically real food that comes from the earth. Such a diet contains many vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and antioxidants.

By simplifying and cleaning our diet, we are able to detoxify our body and more effectively extract all our nutritional needs from whatever it is that we eat, which leads to creating a more balanced and alkaline internal environment that is essential for our body to thrive.

I understand that each of us has a different lifestyle, set of genes, medical history, ancestors and I know that all of that influences how our body behaves and eventually absorbs the food we eat. But I am also sure that if we work to detoxify our body, and consume a plant-based, alkaline diet we will be able to eliminate all this scenario of diseases that we are witnessing, not to mention the benefits of not destroying our planet for the sake of breeding and feeding animals for our consumption.

One of my greatest joys is being able to share what I learned through the years and see how lives transform by changes in eating habits, and just much we can live better than what we originally believe. By just taking the first step in this journey of eating and seek to be your best version every day you’ll already start seeing powerful changes!
